Medicare options? Medicare A,B,C ....And D’s

What do all the letters mean?

To help explain Medicare, original Medicare was created in 1965 and consisted of Part A and Part B. Some of what Medicare Part A has coverage for includes hospitalization, skilled nursing facility care, and hospice care. Medicare Part B covers two categories ~ preventative services and medically necessary services. These parts work together to provide what is called “Original Medicare “. However, there are deductibles and coinsurance that you must pay or have insurance to pay.

Medicare Modernization Act of 2003

This act created Medicare Part C (also known as Medicare Advantage) and Medicare Part D (Medicare prescription drug plans).

Medicare Supplement or Medigap?

Medicare supplements and Medigap policies are different names for the same type of policy.   They are offered by insurance carriers and also have letter designations such as A, G, L, and a few others.
